Col de la Ramaz from Mieussy in the Haute Savoie
Col de la Ramaz is situated in the Chablais and links the town of Morzine to the east with the village of Mieussy to the south-west. The climb starts at the roundabout in the village. Despite its modest average gradient, this climb is irregular, making it difficult to settle in to a rhythm.
After 5kms of alternating gradients between 8% and 2%, the road steepens above the Gorges du Foron. The road is exposed to the midday sun, making the going particularly tough. The road levels out towards the top for 3km to a more modest 5% ahead of the final kilometre push to the col and its impressive views of Mont Blanc.
The col has only been crossed by the Tour de France three times in its history, with the 2016 Tour de France bringing the tally to four on the same stage featuring the 2016 Etape du Tour between Megève and Morzine.
